IT BEGAN WITH a drive thirty miles north to Blaine where Pat Madsen and friends held the first jam with four brand new ukulele folks. They are trying to start a Ukulele Group in Blaine that would meet at the Senior Activity Center. It is a nice place, we had a pleasant time and I had the pleasure of playing the bass with the fledgling group.
I wish them every success.
I wish them every success.
Then I followed Pat home for a nice visit. Here is Pat Madsen in his music room surrounded with instruments and amplifiers. Pat has his hand on one of his three Griffins. I especially wanted to visit with Pat as he had put me onto the amazing Phil Jones new amplifier. I wanted to hook my bass up to this great but small Amp.
Here it is, the incredible Phil Jones "Double Four" amplifier. It has the most incredible tone. It makes my bass sound like a regular four string standup base. It has incredible volume and clarity, and it only weighs 8 pounds, Yes, 8 pounds. It is about 11 inches wide, maybe 6 inches high and deep and it boasts an amazing 75
watts. I hooked this up to my bass last saturday and by 7:00 pm that night decided that I had to have one.
Mine arrives this friday.
You can even hook it up to a small battery and play it for hours on battery power.
The reason I bought it is that it simply brought my bass to life with clear precise notes with each touch of the string. This is an incredible advance in amplifier technology. I think it will be a huge advance in my bass playing
THIS IS SUCH AN INCREDIBLE ADVANCE IN QUALITY THAT I AM TRYING TO GET A DEALERSHIP ARRANGEMENT. LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT TO HEAR MORE ABOUT THIS AMAZING LITTLE/BIG AMPLIFIER. AN EMAIL TO [email protected] will get an immediate response.
THEN I HEADED FOR HOME to install a quartet of springs on my side bender. A quick trip to Hardware Sales netted me four springs. I figured it was time to step up the ease and quality of side bending. we will see how all this works, I will begin bending sides in the next day or two.

Here are the new springs installed on the bender. Here they will be at rest at rest when not being used.
In this position they will exert nice pressure on the wood to be bent and then continue that pressure down the mold as the wood is bent.

And here they are at another position as the sides are bent around the curve of the mold.
Below: The springs are easily detached from one side of the wooden pressure bar. Here you see them detached and completely relaxed.
I am hoping that this will be an improvement in my bending technique. I will soon be testing it all out with lots of sides to bend.
