Here is a great old tool for shaping necks. The spokeshave no doubt got it's name as a tool for shaping the wooden spokes of wagon wheels a long time ago. I would bet in England. I find it invaluable for hogging off lots of wood and roughing in the taper and shape of the necks. works as well pushing it as it does pulling it and has long been one of my favorite hand tool.
After the spokeshave it is time for the rough rasp to shape in the corners where the spokeshave won't go | 
Then some finish work with a fine rasp. This one is flat on one side and rounded on the other. |
