THE MORNING started with a little more work on the necks. Here I am carving the area around the toe to get it just right. Nothing beats a sharp carving gouge and a lignum Vitae mallet for control and effectiveness in carving hard woods. These old tools are long time friends and I love to use them. I finished the necks by cutting away the area on their tops where the soundboard must fit. I used a sled on the table saw to carve off that area to the exact thickness of the soundboard. It is a critical cut, you want to take your time to get it right.
