I am glueing together a two piece book-matched back for the next blonde tenor. This is a really simple operation once you get the joining edges perfectly straight.
The clamping brace at the top of the picture is screwed to the board. 1. you lay down a piece of saran wrap so the excess glue will not stick the back to the board. 2. put glue on both sides of your joining edge and set them in position against the clamping brace. 3. put another piece of saran wrap on top of the glued joint and then a flat batten over the joint and saran wrap. 4. place a heavy weight on the batten to prevent the joint from rising under pressure of the clamps. (I use a bag of lead shot). 5. place an unattached straight clamping brace in front of the glued pieces and apply clamp pressure. The wooden clamp is used to keep the brace from rising under pressure.
This is all very simple and also very effective. The real secret is getting the joint to meet perfectly.

This is simple also!. I put a long strip of 120 grit sandpaper on the flat saw table and under the rip fence.
A few passes of the joining edges and they are straight as a die and ready to be joined. The secret is to sand only in one direction. Stroke, lift and stroke again -always sanding in the same direction. If you sand back and forth you will never get the edges to meet perfectly- remember to sand in only one direction.
Hold the wood against the rip fence as you sand to ensure that your edge will be a perfect 90 degrees.
Be a perfectionist here- check the edges carefully for they must align perfectly before glueing.

The result is a true joint, here the two pieces are just set together, When glued and sanded the center line will be almost invisible. I hope those little blemishes sand out as I thin this pretty back.
