WONDRUS LASER WORK

I got back to work on these two ukes today, thanks to the wonders of digital laser work by my friend Kurt at Bay Engraving.

Kurt has just completed the laser cutting of two insignias for the fretboards of these ukes.  His work is just perfect.  If you need laser engraving or inlay work take it to Kurt.

Here is his shop, at the corner of State, and Ohio Streets in Bellingham.

I took him a couple of thin pieces of Holly and Ebony

And this was the result.  Lots of Yin/Yangs and a couple of horses heads for George and Rich.

He not only cuts the inlay pieces but he cuts the incised holes that they fit into perfectly.

And here they are set into the fret boards and sanded down smooth.
It is all quite amazing and wonderfully precise

Zen master Kurt looks like he doesn’t horse around! Very nice. I was wondering if you had to use a Forstner bit to cut the inset—this answers that. I’d like to see a demo some day.
