TONITE was Ukulele lesson night, every wednesday evening 20 eager learners gather at a local church and have a delightful time with Gail Mc donald, our teacher. Gail is a retired teacher, the co-leader of our local Ukulele group B.U.G (bellingham ukulele group), an excellent musician and a gifted teacher. She does more than teach us to play the ukulele. She teaches a good bit of music theory, and she teaches us to read music. We play melody on the Uke by picking individual notes, thus we learn to read music. It has been one of the most difficult mental tasks of my life to learn to read music at my advanced age-but I am getting there, and loving every minute of it. Gail makes it fun, challenging and wonderfully fulfilling. And she never makes you feel stupid when you clang the wrong note. She is great and we all love her. I hope you can be lucky enough to find a great teacher. take advantage of the opportunity if you can.
