LITTLE BY LITTLE

LITTLE BY LITTLE, These three tenors are creeping toward completion.  Actually I am pleased with the progress.  I work at them a little at a time as time from other tasks allows but they are progressing nicely.  The necks are now all attached to the tops,  The backs are done.  Last night I cut the soundhole braces and they are now all installed .  Today I also got the "butt blocks"  done and ready to install.  Maybe after dinner I will glue them on.  Then the next step will be bending sides, or maybe tapering fretboards and installing frets.  Yep,  these tenors are coming along nicely.

That sound hole presents a weak area because of the rosette installed there.  This cedar backing piece is fitted under the rosette.  The cedar grain is lateral to the spruce grain and thus very strong., light but strong.

Now it is time for the "butt block" that is glued to the bottom of the tone wood top.
The sides will be glued to it at the bottom of the uke, thus it is an important structural piece.  Here, on the oscillating sander, I am creating the curve at the bottom of the uke.

Here they are, with a little fine tuning they will be ready to glue on the top.

And this is where they will be glued on.  The sides glue to it, the back is also glued to it.
