THIS IS AN EXCITING DAY. I got an email from Eric Devine today telling me that he will soon be beginning to build the uke that I ordered a year and a half ago. He wanted to know if i had any changes in my order.
It may sound strange to you that I would order a custom ukulele from Eric when I make pretty darned good ones myself. Well here is the story. I simply think Eric builds the best ukuleles in the world. I am getting mighty long in the tooth, I can afford it , and I would like to own one of the very very best. and so I have committed to spending $$$$ for a work of art, for an instrument that I hope and expect will inspire my own creativity and knowledge, and an instrument that I will enjoy for the rest of my days. It will be made with an mastergrade Koa back and sides and a redwood top made from wood Eric rescued from a 100 year old water tower on Maui. The wood is so fine grained that it even eclipses the 47 growth rings per inch cedar that I build my ukes with. If you do not know about Eric Devine, I invite you to google his web-site. is instruments are devine indeed. I will be heading to Maui in a couple of weeks and will make my annual visit to his workshop. Can you imagine how excited I am to see him working on my very own ukulele.
