BEES; a couple of days ago I posted several pictures showing Orchard Mason Bees nesting- but this picture shows what they are really beneficial for. This little black bee is eagerly harvesting pollen and nectar from this apple blossom. The tree is an espaliered apple growing in an oak tub in my back yard. I am expecting the annual crop of about ten big jonagolds as a result of the bee's activities They are consummate pollinators of spring fruit.
BOOKS: I did ok today at the book signing at Cozy Corner Book Store. Sold eleven books in three hours, took my uke along but I was busy most of the time so didn't have to play it much.
UKULELES; Had a little time to do some more sanding today in preparation for adding the bindings. These Rosewoods have a lot of resins in them which rises to the surface with the heat of the bending process. I spent some time sanding off the resin spots. It's a very good idea to wear a dust mask when sanding Rosewood, or any wood for that matter. You don't want that stuff in your lungs.

Here are the tenors during sanding. Notice the shellac on the Redwood tops. Just a protective coating to be sure I don't spill something on the tops that would stain them. This is marvelous Redwood. I want it to look great when the ukes are done
Look at how fine the annual growth rings are. This is primo Redwood, as pretty as you will see. It came from an old water tank on a New York City apartment house. It is wonderful tonewood. I am playing a uke now that is made from it. Wonderful tone.
